Rodney Grose is a Lead Civil Engineer based in Knight Piésold’s Johannesburg office. He has a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering and M.Sc. in Environmental Health Engineering, and over 37 years of engineering experience in the water services field. His experience includes the investigation, planning, design, and operation of wastewater treatment facilities and the management of aspects of metropolitan-scale urban water supply and sanitation infrastructure. He has extensive experience in sanitation and water supply in local government. Additionally, he has been on two technical tours to the USA in order to expand his knowledge on the latest approaches to wastewater treatment technologies in the USA.
Rodney’s experience in the design and construction of wastewater treatment works as well as participating in the drafting of design guidelines of various unit processes for Johannesburg Water has developed his knowledge of technologies, engineering methodologies, and specific design techniques applicable to the design of wastewater treatment works and in particular biological nutrient removal activated sludge works and their resulting sludge treatments.
For the past eight year at Knight Piésold, he has been the lead design engineer on a number of projects, including projects to upgrade Johannesburg Water’s wastewater treatment works; the pre-construction stages of the bulk water supply pump station for an irrigation scheme in Namibia; a project to address water demand management issues in Ekurhuleni; and wastewater treatment facilities in Botswana and Swaziland.
