Situated in arguably one of the most beautiful cities in South Africa, with the majestic Atlantic Ocean at its doorstep and Table Mountain providing a dramatic backdrop, Kayad Knight Piésold employs over 25 staff. These staff members are committed to providing professional services of the utmost quality and embraces challenges that are associated with the dynamic and changing sphere of South Africa and its mother city.
Kayad Knight Piésold’s main areas of specialization are road engineering, including road rehabilitation and routine road maintenance; structures including bridges, retaining walls, structural inspections, transportation infrastructure and transit systems; township and urban services; project management; and environmental services.
The Durban office is located in the holiday mecca of South Africa, with its multicultural and vibrant population, mild tropical climate, beautiful coastline and close access to the resorts of the World Heritage Drakensberg Mountains and game reserves.

Covered by the Kalahari Desert, Botswana is one of the fastest growing economies in the world. The Knight Piésold office is situated in Gaborone, the capital city of Botswana. Gaborone is a tourist attraction with facilities of a modern city such as international hotels, casinos, restaurants and the international Sir Siretse Khama airport. It also offers excellent game viewing and bird watching.
In 1979, Knight Piésold registered a company in Botswana following its appointment as the civil engineering consultant for the Morupule A Project and has maintained a permanently manned office in Botswana since 1982. Since its formation, the Botswana office has been providing services to government, parastatal and private business sectors. The office has traditionally been very active in dam and river engineering and other water related projects. Moreover, it has undertaken design and project management of heavy industrial installations as well as work in infrastructure, institutional buildings, schools and offices, roads, and environmental studies.
Knight Piésold Consulting Swaziland is situated in Mbabane, the capital city of the Kingdom of Swaziland. Swaziland is a small landlocked country in Southern Africa, bordered to the north, south and west by South Africa and to the east by Mozambique. Swaziland also offers a wide variety of landscapes, from the mountains along the Mozambican border, savannas in the east and to the rain forest in the northwest. Several rivers flow through the country such as the Great Usuthu River.
Swaziland’s main foreign currency earner is its sugar industry. Since sugarcane in Swaziland is cultivated under irrigation, effective water resource management is essential. This is primarily where Knight Piésold’s extensive experiences become forefront resulting in an office that is actively involved in water related projects. It has successfully undertaken projects such as the Maguga Dam Project, the Etemba Dam Study and the Lavumisa Irrigation Project Feasibility Study, and has been involved with hydropower schemes, pipelines, and water and waste water treatment plants that have contributed significantly towards the development of the Swazi economy.
The little town of Phalaborwa is situated in the Limpopo province, which provides a gateway to the Kruger National Park. Phalaborwa is known as the Town of Two Summers as it experiences mild winters and extremely hot summers. Along with its rich tropical characteristics, it is almost hard to believe that Phalaborwa is in fact a mining town. The town is home to the Palaborwa Mining Company, which operates a single cluster of open pit and underground mines producing mainly copper as well as other byproducts.
Accordingly, Knight Piésold’s Phalaborwa office has been extensively involved in projects for this mining company over the years. Services offered include feasibility studies, closure cost reporting, design and construction supervision. The small Phalaborwa office works closely with the mining division at Head Office to ensure that their clients’ needs are satisfied through cost-effective solutions and technical expertise.
Situated on the Great North road to Zimbabwe, Polokwane plays host to another South African Knight Piésold office. Polokwane, found in the heart of the Limpopo province, is the largest city in Northern South Africa. The city has a legacy embroiled in rich culture, yet is bustling with dynamic energy as new opportunities unfold within it. Polokwane, which means “Place of Safety”, has a wealth of agricultural resources, tourist attractions and mineral rich soils.
Being acutely aware of the enormity of the service backlogs provided in Limpopo, Knight Piésold and Hanyane Msimeki initiated the formation Phakama Knight Piésold to address these backlog issues, not only in Limpopo but throughout South Africa as well.Phakama, which means rise in Zulu, encapsulates the spirit of rising up to meet current socio-economic challenges by providing comprehensive consulting engineering and project management services to historically disadvantaged local communities and to both the public and private sector clients. This office has four staff members and its main areas of specialization include water supply, water sanitation and transportation.
The Pretoria office, also known as Knight Hall Hendry, is situated in Pretoria, Gauteng, approximately 50 km north of Johannesburg. Pretoria, also called the Jacaranda City due to the purple blossoming trees lining the streets in spring, is a lovely city. Sheltered by the hills of the Magaliesberg range to the north, the city has a slightly warmer climate than Johannesburg. The city is one of the three capital cities of South Africa and is host to many significant historical buildings and fascinating museums, including the Union Buildings, the Voortrekker Monument and General Smuts Museum. Pretoria also boasts beautiful botanical gardens, a well-known zoo, and the Loftus Stadium, home of Blue Bulls Rugby.
Knight Hall Hendry is the geotechnical division of Knight Piésold and provides specialized geological, geotechnical and environmental engineering services to engineering companies, municipalities, government departments, developers and the mining industry. The design, supervision and project management of a wide range of engineering projects have been undertaken for more than 30 years.
Knight Piésold extended its operational reach to the country of Namibia in 2008. This Southern African country shares its borders with South Africa, Angola, Botswana and the Atlantic Ocean. Even though this country is immense by African standards, with approximately 824,000 km2, it is has a mere population of 2.1 million. The majority of the Namibian population is black African from the Ovambo ethnicity, but the country also has a significant Afrikaans and German presence as a result of earlier colonization. Since its independence, Namibia boasts a record of uninterrupted peace and stability. Namibia has a rugged landscape and a dry and pleasant climate as it is partially covered by the long coastal Namib Desert.
Knight Piésold has two offices in Namibia – in Windhoek and Ondangwa. Windhoek is the capital and largest city in Namibia, which makes it the social, economic and cultural centre of the country. Ondangwa, on the other hand, is a small town in northern Namibia.
