The Yanacocha mine is the largest gold producer in Latin America and is composed of four operations. Knight Piésold has worked with Yanacocha since the mine inception and during the last 14 years of operation, Knight Piésold has designed all heap leach pads and associated structures including ponds, access roads and channels amongst others.
The Canatuan Sulphide Tailings Storage Facility is a valley type impoundment contained behind a large, cross valley, zoned earthfill/rockfill embankment dam. Knight Piésold has provided oversight of construction and quality assurance (QA) services as well as design updates and operational assistance, including reviews of instrumentation records since 2008.
The Mary River Project is located on Baffin Island in the Qikiqtani Region of Nunavut. The mine involves an 22.2 million tonne per year open pit iron ore mining operation, construction of a 145-kilometre rail line over continuous permafrost, construction of a deep-sea port, and year-round shipping using ice‑breaking bulk carriers. An initial 4.2 million tonne per year operation was commissioned in 2015.
The Fort Knox Mine is located near Fairbanks, Alaska. Knight Piésold has provided all engineering design, construction QC services and operational assistance to the tailings storage facility since the onset of initial planning in 1992.
Sierra Gorda is a large tonnage, porphyry style open pit copper mine development project located in the most prolific copper mining district in the world – the Atacama Desert of Northern Chile. Knight Piésold has been involved with the project on multiple aspects, including tailings and water management and geotechnical investigations.
The copper mineralization at Kinsevere Copper Mine occurs in three known deposits namely Central Pit, Mashi and Kinsevere Hill and occurs predominantly as stratiform deposits in rocks of the Mines Series. Knight Piésold was responsible for completing the hydrogeological assessment of the Kinsevere Copper Mine.
