Project Description: The Kabwelume and Kundabwika hydroelectric station project sites are on the Kalungwishi River in the northern and Luapula provinces of Zambia. The major components of the development include 147 MW Kundabwika Falls generating station and substation, 100 MW Kabwelume Falls Generating Station and substation, 600 km long 330 kV transmission line and associated substations, and other associated access roads and site infrastructure.
Knight Piésold’s Role: As the Owner’s Engineer, Knight Piésold assisted the client in securing the rights to develop the project though project optimization, contract documentation and administration as well as assisting in the negotiations to secure the concession to operate the facility. In addition, Knight Piésold supported the client with the overall project optimization and permitting; hydrology and energy generation studies; preliminary engineering design; tender design and negotiations, and site supervision.
