Houndé Gold Project

The Houndé Gold Project, which is located approximately 250 km southwest of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, is an open cut gold mining project with a processing capacity of 3 Mtpa and an expected life of 10+ years. First gold pour is expected in Q4 2017, and the project is expected to become Endeavour Mining Corporation’s (Endeavor) flagship mine.

Knight Piésold’s Role

Endeavour acquired the Houndé Gold Project in 2013, and Knight Piésold has been involved in the project since then, from the feasibility study through to construction/commissioning. Knight Piésold has been providing engineering and environmental services to assist in the development of a Definitive Feasibility Study for the project and enable the project to gain the environmental approvals required by the Burkina Faso regulatory authorities prior to commencement of the project.

  • Tailings laboratory testing and interpretation
  • Site groundwater investigation, including pit dewatering assessment
  • Plant site geotechnical investigation and interpretation
  • Siting study for tailings storage facility (TSF), water harvesting dam (WHD), water storage dam (WSD), including various optimization exercises
  • Site-wide water balance modelling, including daily water harvesting assessment using historical rainfall data
  • Design and QA/QC supervision for TSF, WHD, WSD
  • Review of environmental data
  • Review and revision of the environmental and social impact assessment and associated management plans

Knight Piésold’s involvement has continued post-construction with provision of assistance to site operations staff and design of the first TSF raise and Cell 2 extension.
