Construction Materials/Soil Technician

We have openings in both our Tucson, Arizona and Elko, Nevada offices for a field/laboratory technician with knowledge of construction materials sampling and testing and field construction QA/QC who is interested in a challenging technical position with continuous opportunity to learn. Successful candidates must be self-disciplined, motivated and be able to work in a team environment. These positions require attention to detail and strong communication skills. These positions will have extended field assignments with some office work. Must have a valid driver’s license.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform construction QA/QC on large earthwork projects including tailing impoundments, heap leach facilities and reservoirs.
  • Perform geotechnical laboratory testing. Tests include but are not limited to basic classification tests, (grain size, Atterberg Limits, specific gravity) and compaction tests (Proctor), and will include soils processing. Experience with hydraulic conductivity tests and strength tests a plus but not required (willing to train).
  • Coordinate and perform quality inspections and complete required quality control documentation
  • Keep project manager advised of work status, workload, problems, and progress as related to work assignments. 

Qualifications to perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Must have a good work ethic. Must be able to multitask, balance workload and take direction from multiple clients.
  • Basic to intermediate math skills. Cursory knowledge of Excel and Word a plus.
  • Ability to clearly communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be willing to work weekends, when required. 


  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 2 to 5 years of previous soils laboratory experience
  • Construction materials testing experience a plus.
  • Certification by a qualified national, regional or state authority as appropriate to the services is a plus.

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Work Environment

Work will be performed in a field setting and a geotechnical soils laboratory and may be exposed to varying ambient conditions.  Adherence to safety standards including those of the firm, MSHA, OSHA is mandatory.  Site Specific and MSHA New Miner or annual refresher training will be made available.
