David Levi is a Specialist Electrical Engineer based in Knight Piésold’s Vancouver office. He has over 40 years of experience in electrical engineering as a consultant and contactor, including 25 years of experience in hydroelectric power generation systems. His power generation work includes detailed equipment specifications; equipment selection for electrical and control systems; design and layout of power plant electrical equipment; generator factory testing; design of electrical schemes and single line diagrams for high and low voltage systems, grounding systems, cable tray systems, cable selection, HVAC electrical systems, cable schedules, protective relay selection, specification and settings; and review of OEM drawings. He is skilled in using ETAP PowerStation (Electrical Transient Analyzer Program) and SIMSEN software for short-circuit, load flow, transient stability analyzes, ARC Flash study, and motor starting study.
Recent assignments include the impact system study for the interconnection to the ZESCO utility of the Kalungwishi hydroelectric projects in the Zambia using PSSE software and also complete electrical, control and protections optimization design for that project.
Design for various transmission line (voltage and conductor optimization [69 kV to 500kV]) and electrical control and protections assessments and feasibility design for projects in Canada, Africa, Philippines, and South America.
