Santo Domingo Project

The Santo Domingo Project is a proposed development of two open pit mines using conventional drilling and blasting located in Diego de Almagro in the Chañaral Province, Atacama Region. The project objective is to produce copper and magnetite concentrate through open pit mining and processing with seawater without desalting using conventional flotation and magnetic separation, with a nominal capacity of 65,000 tonnes per day (tpd) of mineral for the first years of operation (years 1 to 5) and 60,000 tonnes per day (tpd) for the following years (years 6 to 18).

Knight Piésold’s Role

Knight Piésold was retained to develop an environmental impact study for the project and was responsible for the following:

  • Development of environmental baseline studies
  • Prediction and evaluation of environmental impacts
  • Analysis of the applicable regulations
  • Preparation of a mitigation and compensation plan with an environmental monitoring plan
  • Development of the anticipated citizen participation program and also the citizen participation program, which is part of the environmental assessment of the project
