Project Overview
Two Rivers Platinum (Pty) Ltd. (TRP) mine is located near the town of Steelpoort, in Mpumalanga on the eastern limb of the Bushveld Complex. The operation comprises an underground mine consisting of the Main Decline, the North Decline, and a concentrator plant. As part of their water use license conditions and annual monitoring program, aquatic bio-monitoring should be conducted three times per annum.
Project Role
Knight Piésold was appointed by TRP to conduct the aquatic bio-monitoring for the Two Rivers Operations to comply with their water use license conditions. The conditions require monitoring upstream and downstream of the mining operations to determine any possible impact on the aquatic ecosystem. The main roles of the monitoring include:
- Aquatic toxicology sampling and analysis
- Macro invertebrates using the SASS v5
- Fish Assembly Integrity Index (FAII)
- In-situ water quality analysis
- Reporting on all monitoring events
