The Role:
You will serve as a senior technical lead for hydrogeology projects and tasks within our multidisciplinary Geotechnical team. This position is responsible for leading complex hydrogeological investigations and groundwater management projects, with a focus on the mining and hydropower sectors. You will provide technical direction, oversee project delivery, and help drive business development and client relationship management.
The ideal candidate is a recognized or emerging subject matter expert in hydrogeology, comfortable taking ownership of project outcomes, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to the continued growth of our water resources practice.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and direct hydrogeological studies to evaluate groundwater availability, quality, flow systems, and aquifer characterization for mining, environmental, and water resources projects.
- Design and oversee the development, calibration, and application of analytical and numerical groundwater flow and transport models (e.g., MODFLOW, FEFLOW) under fully saturated and variably saturated conditions.
- Provide senior technical review and sign-off on hydrogeologic analyses, reports, and designs to ensure technical rigor, quality, and compliance with client and regulatory expectations.
- Integrate hydrogeologic assessments with geotechnical, environmental, and surface water studies to support mine planning, dewatering, water supply, and environmental impact assessments.
- Develop and evaluate groundwater monitoring networks, pumping tests, and data acquisition programs; interpret field and laboratory data for use in design and decision-making.
- Manage medium to large, multi-disciplinary projects, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, resource planning, and risk management.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for key clients; build and maintain long-term client relationships through consistent, high-quality delivery and proactive communication.
- Prepare high-quality technical reports, presentations, and deliverables tailored to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including regulators and community representatives.
- Lead and contribute to technical proposals, including defining scope, developing methodologies, estimating fees, and presenting proposed approaches to client
- Provide day-to-day technical guidance and coaching to junior and intermediate staff; oversee their work to ensure accuracy, clarity, and professional development.
- Contribute to the development of internal best practices, standards, and tools in hydrogeology and groundwater resources.

Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science (B.S) degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or closely related science or engineering field. Master of Science (MS)/ (PH. D) or strongly preferred.
- Hydrogeological principles and aquifer systems, including groundwater–surface water interactions.
- Design, execution, and interpretation of pumping tests and other aquifer characterization programs.
- Numerical groundwater modeling (e.g., MODFLOW, FEFLOW) and supporting analytical methods.
- Strong applied understanding of geologic principles, including structural geology, field mapping, and exploration methods (e.g., drilling, well design, and integration of geophysical data).
- Proven experience managing projects (scope, schedule, budget) and delivering work on time and within budget to client satisfaction.
- Proficiency in relevant software tools such as:
- Groundwater modeling platforms (e.g., MODFLOW-based suites, FEFLOW).
- GIS applications (e.g., ArcGIS or QGIS) and AutoCAD or similar drafting tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly present complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences and senior decision-makers.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional registration (e.g., P.G., P.GEO, P.Eng., P.E., or equivalent) or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
- Significant experience in mining-related hydrogeology, including:
- Mine dewatering and depressurization design.
- Water supply development and optimization.
- Groundwater components of environmental impact assessments, closure planning, and postclosure performance.
- Direct experience with environmental permitting and regulatory processes related to water management, including preparing supporting documentation and responding to regulator comments.
- Track record of business development activities such as client account management, developing new opportunities, and contributing to strategic pursuits.
- Experience in arid or remote environments, high-altitude operations, or other challenging field conditions.
- Publication or presentation record in relevant professional conferences or journals is an asset.
Work Environment:
Work will be in both office and field environment with travel to various outdoor sites determined by project needs. Adherence to safety standards including those of the firm, MSHA, OSHA is mandatory.
Compensation:
In accordance with Colorado state law, the following Annual compensation range is applicable for the job and Colorado location associated with this requisition: $150,000-$180,000/year. Actual compensation may vary from posted hiring range based upon compensable factors, including: experience, education, and skill level.
