The Role

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the design and analysis of pumping systems, piping systems, hydraulic conveyance infrastructure, and related mechanical equipment. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced engineers and contribute to projects from concept development through detailed design and construction support.

Exposure to or academic knowledge of the following areas is desired:

  1. Turbomachinery and control equipment (gates, valves, chokes) as well as an advanced familiarity understanding of the relevant U.S. & international codes for pipe, materials, & equipment (ASME, AWWA, API, ASTM, ANSI, AWS, BS, ISO)
  2. Electrical, instrumentation and controls to allow for an effective collaboration with the electrical design team

Responsibilities

  • Assist in applying mechanical engineering principles to develop safe, economical, and innovative design solutions.
  • Assist with technical analyses, calculations, and modeling, including Newtonian and non-Newtonian pump/pipe systems, rheology evaluations, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and 3D layout modeling.
  • Support the preparation of engineering drawings, plans, and specifications based on engineering calculations and project requirements.
  • Prepare technical reports, project documentation, and other engineering deliverables.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support project planning, design development, and project execution.
  • Assist with equipment selection, quantity takeoffs, and preparation of technical specifications.
  • Support the development and review of calculations, reports, drawings, and design documents to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
  • Participate in field investigations, site visits, construction support activities, and coordination with clients, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Contribute to the design of pumping systems, piping systems, hydraulic conveyance infrastructure, and related mechanical equipment for mining, hydropower, water resources, and infrastructure projects.
  • Support project teams in delivering practical, sustainable, and innovative engineering solutions while meeting project schedules and budgets

Qualifications 

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 0-4 years of relevant engineering experience
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, or similar design software
  • Understanding of fluid mechanics, hydraulics, and mechanical systems
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills

Preferred

  • Experience with Plant 3D
  • Hydraulic system design
  • Turbomachinery experience

  • Transient analysis

  • Pipe stress analysis
  • Spanish language skills

Compensation 

In accordance with Colorado state law, the following Annual compensation range is applicable for the job and Colorado location associated with this requisition: $70,000-$92,000/year. Actual compensation may vary from posted hiring range based upon compensable factors, including: experience, education, and skill level.

Work Environment

Work will be in both an office and field environment with potential travel to various outdoor sites determined by project needs. Adherence to safety standards including those of the firm, MSHA, OSHA is mandatory.
