Knight Piésold Brazil started in 2014 as an initiative to provide further support to one of the company’s global clients that has operations in the country. The establishment of a local branch allowed us to include on-site support and QA/QC tasks to our portfolio of services, incorporating Brazilian engineering resources to our capabilities in the field.

As our involvement in Brazilian projects increased, we boosted our in-country technical expertise in 2017 with the addition of Octavio Vilas Boas as the Technical Director of the branch. Octavio brought over 45 years of experience and technical expertise to the growing local team, as a recognized tailings management expert in the mining industry in Brazil and being actively engaged in many mines in the country.

Gustavo Vianna joined the team as the Director of Operations in late 2018 and Knight Piésold Brazil proudly opened the company’s first formal office in the country in 2019, located in the city of Belo Horizonte, the capital of the state of Minas Gerais.

While working on complementing Knight Piésold’s global resources to support existing clients and pursue prospective clients, Knight Piésold Brazil is experiencing a continuous and thoughtful increase in the company’s presence in the country. For the past six years, Knight Piésold Brazil has been involved in major projects, such as providing design and Engineer of Record services for the country´s largest and second largest tailings storage facility; designing filtered tailings piles and innovative solutions for storage, decharacterization, and closure initiatives; as well as performing due diligence works for several relevant players in the mining and finance industries.

While Brazil continues to promote fundamental changes in the way the country deals with technical challenges in the mining industry, we are successfully providing a combination of international best practices with local expertise to contribute to our client´s dynamically changing demands.
