September 26, 2025, Lima, Peru – Knight Piésold Peru participated in PERUMIN 2025 as part of the delegation of the British Embassy in Lima, at their stand in the International Pavilion. The conference was held on September 22 to 26 at the Cerro Juli Convention Center, located in the city of Arequipa. This presence reflects Knight Piésold’s commitment to continue delivering engineering solutions with the highest standards of quality and sustainability for the mining and energy sectors, in a space that brings together the leading players in the industry.

Representing Knight Piésold were Francisco García, Environmental Manager; Elio Murrugarra, Engineering Project Manager; Néstor Choquehuanca, Project Engineer; Fanny Herrera, Project Engineer; María Isabel Vadillo, Project Engineer II; José Mejía, Project Engineer; Flor Inami, Project Scientist; and Freddy Briones, Tailings Management Engineer. The participation of this multidisciplinary team reaffirms Knight Piésold’s ability to address complex projects from multiple specialties, generating comprehensive and sustainable solutions.

As part of the conference’s activities, Murrugarra delivered the presentation “Closure Engineering, Beyond a Plan” at the Mining Tea Break organized by the British Embassy. The presentation emphasized the need to move beyond the traditional approach of mine closure plans and advance toward closure engineering, understood as a technical, environmental, and social process that must be conceived from the very beginning of the mining cycle.

This paradigm shift involves treating closure as a complete engineering project, with analysis, design, and verification at every stage. In this way, it becomes possible to anticipate risks, optimize resources, avoid cost overruns, and ensure that closure is carried out effectively, strengthening both the sustainability and credibility of projects.
