Edoardo Zannoni

Edoardo Zannoni is a Director at Knight Piésold South Africa and the Geotechnical Section Manager. With 15 years of experience in the civil and mining sectors, he delivers tailings management and geotechnical projects across Southern Africa and beyond, covering phases from investigation and design through construction, rehabilitation, and closure.

He holds an MSc Eng and a BSc Eng in Civil Engineering from the University of Roma Tre. He is registered as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng, ECSA) and a Chartered Engineer (CEng, MICE).

Edoardo specialises in geosynthetics and geotechnical engineering—including soil reinforcement, ground improvement, and barrier systems. His expertise spans TSF stewardship (including Engineer of Record support and GISTM compliance), slope stability, MSE retaining structures, stormwater and erosion control, and construction supervision and quality assurance. He has led notable projects for clients such as Sibanye-Stillwater, ZCCM-IH/World Bank, Arup, and Salini Impregilo in South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, and Mauritius.

He contributes to the profession as Vice President of the International Geosynthetics Society and is active in the South African Institution of Civil Engineering, Geosynthetics Interest Group of South Africa, and Institution of Civil Engineers, while leading key client accounts and multidisciplinary teams.
