June 13, 2025, Lima, Peru – From June 4 to 6, 2025, Knight Piésold Peru conducted a specialized technical training course in Quito, Ecuador titled "Design, Operation, and Closure of Tailings and Waste Rock Storage Facilities." This initiative was carried out at the request of Solaris Resources, one of Knight Piésold’s clients in the region, with the goal of strengthening regulatory and technical capacities for the safe and sustainable management of mining waste deposits.

Over the course of three days, Knight Piésold shared technical knowledge with representatives from various entities. The training covered key aspects of designing, operating, and technically closing tailings and waste rock storage facilities in accordance with international standards, governance, and sustainability criteria.

The training course was led by the Knight Piésold team comprising General Manager Guillermo Barreda; Engineering Manager Rubén Vargas; and specialists Fanny Herrera, Néstor Choquehuanca, and Kathia Tabra, who focus on geotechnical, water management, and geochemical aspects. Each speaker contributed technical expertise from their respective fields, covering topics including site characterization, geotechnical design of deposits, water management and dam breach analysis, water quality and geochemistry, best practices for safe operation and tailings governance, technical criteria for facility closure, and typical failure mechanisms that must be considered early in a project's lifecycle.
