Hans Otto

Hans Otto is a Principal Tailings Engineer at Knight Piésold UK. Based in the London office, he leads mine waste projects across all stages of development and is responsible for business development and mentoring colleagues.

He is a mine waste disposal specialist with over 20 years of experience, including conceptual and feasibility studies, detailed design, and review. He has delivered tailored design solutions, risk assessments, and implementations conforming to the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management for tailings and mine waste projects across Europe, Africa, and Asia. His experience extends to auditing and monitoring tailings storage facilities, as well as their closure and aftercare.

Hans holds an M.Eng. in Engineering Management from the University of Johannesburg, a B.Eng. (Hons)  in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of Pretoria, and a B.Eng. in Civil and Urban Engineering from the Rand Afrikaans University. He is registered as Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
