Project Overview

The El Morro Copper-Gold Project is a proposed open pit development of the La Fortuna deposit located in Region III of northern Chile, approximately 660 km north of Santiago. Mineral processing will be by conventional flotation method and concentrate will be transferred via buried pipeline to the filter plant located at the port facility. Other development includes access roads and a transmission line.

Project Role

Knight Piésold was retained to develop the environmental impact study (EIS) of the project. As part of the EIS, Knight Piésold completed the following:

  • An overview of the regulations that apply to the project with consideration to air and water quality, land use, biodiversity, archeology and cultural heritage, noise, human environment, solid and liquid waste, light pollution, and public roads
  • Baseline studies of climate and meteorology, geology, geomorphology and natural hazards, soils, water resources, marine environment, noise and vibration, air quality, flora and vegetation, aquatic fauna and limnology, human environment, construction environment, cultural heritage, and landscape
  • Prediction and assessment of environmental impacts, mitigation, and compensation measures plan
  • Environmental monitoring plan
  • Citizen participation plan
