Project Overview

The Kalungwishi Hydroelectric Project is located on the Kalungwishi River in the Northern and Luapula provinces of Zambia. The major components of the development include 151 MW Kundabwika Falls generating station and substation, 96 MW Kabwelume Falls generating station and substation, 300-km-long 330 kV transmission line and 10-km-long 60 kV transmission line and associated substations, and other associated access roads and site infrastructure.

The project will provide much needed energy to the Zambian electrical grid through a long-term power purchase agreement with ZESCO Limited.

Project Role

Knight Piesold was retained by Lunzua Power Authority as their owner’s engineer, providing technical assistance to secure the concession and rights to develop the project. In addition, Knight Piésold supported the client with:
