Project Overview

Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales S.A (YPF) retained Knight Piésold to carry out four environmental baseline studies in the onshore exploitation areas in the Neuquén basin, located mostly in the province of Río Negro, in the border with the province of Neuquén.

Project Role

Knight Piésold developed the environmental, social, and biodiversity baseline studies for the areas. Each environmental baseline study consisted of an initial environmental diagnosis to identify the environmental passives and/or cumulative impacts, and the preparation of specific environmental studies to describe physical, biological, and socio-economic contexts, each with their respective environmental elements.

Knight Piésold analyzed the main environmental elements, including geophysical, atmospheric, hydrospheric, natural hazard, biotic, socio-economic and cultural surroundings, surface facility status, passives and impacts, and environmental sensitivity.

For the term of the consulting service, approximately 1,394 hydrocarbon extraction wells were surveyed in the El Medanito, Barranca Los Loros, Señal Picada, Punta Barda, and Bajo del Pinche areas.
